Muuto Fiber Used Bar Stool w Backrest, Black
Muuto is the Copenhagen design house behind some of the most recognizable Scandinavian furniture of the last twenty years, and the Fiber series by the Danish duo Iskos-Berlin is one of its best known. Launched in 2014, Fiber takes its name from the shell material: a composite of roughly 25 percent FSC certified wood fiber blended with polypropylene, injection molded in a single piece. The wood content gives the shell a soft matte finish and a warmer, less plasticky feel than a standard molded chair, and Iskos-Berlin’s work is held in collections including MoMA.
This is the Fiber Bar Stool with a backrest, built at bar height on four black stained solid wood legs with a black steel footrest ring. Muuto designates this model H75, referring to the 75 centimeter seat height, which puts it at roughly 29.5 inches and squarely in bar height territory for counters and high tables in that range. The shell is the low backed Fiber profile, so it gives the sitter something to lean against rather than leaving them perched on a flat pad.
The footrest is a genuine steel ring rather than a stretcher between the legs, which means feet land somewhere comfortable from any direction rather than only from the front. Iskos-Berlin shaped the shell with a waterfall front edge that relieves pressure behind the knees, which matters more on a bar stool than on a dining chair because the legs hang unsupported. The shell is a single molded piece with no seams to split, it wipes clean with a damp cloth, and the wood fiber composite is fully recyclable. That combination of a durable surface and a genuinely comfortable shaped shell is why the Fiber series turns up in cafeterias, meeting rooms, breakout areas, lobbies and dining spaces alike.
