Base Table by Muuto, Oak w Black Base
The Base table was designed for Muuto by the Finnish designer Mika Tolvanen, and it comes from a straightforward starting point. Tolvanen has said his designs are function oriented, and Base is the proof: a slim painted metal frame with a cross brace low down between the legs, which is what gives a light frame the rigidity to carry a long top without flex. This is the high version, standing at bar height, and it is built for the standing meetings, quick working sessions and casual gatherings that happen away from a desk.
This pre-owned Base high table has an oak top on a matte black metal frame. The top is oak veneer over a plywood core, and the edge is left exposed so the layered plywood shows as a fine striped line all the way around, with the oak grain running the length of the surface above it. The frame is powder coated matte black, built from slim round tube with a low stretcher connecting the legs on each side and a long rail running between them, which doubles as a footrest for anyone standing at the table.
At just under 75 inches long and only 19.75 inches deep, this is a narrow communal table, and the proportions are the reason it works. It slots along a wall, down the middle of a break room or against a window without eating up floor area, and people can gather along both sides of it standing up. At 41.25 inches high it lines up with bar stools and standing height seating. It is a natural fit for break rooms, cafes, collaborative zones, reception areas and the informal meeting spaces that sit between desks.

The top and frame will be damage free, and the surface may show only very slight scratches, if any.
