70/70 Table by TAF Studio For Muuto, White w Black Base
The 70/70 table was designed for Muuto by TAF Studio in Stockholm, and the name comes straight from the construction: the table is built on two cast aluminum frames, each measuring 70 by 70 centimeters. TAF describe the design as a study in geometric forms, identifying the dimensions for a well balanced table. That frame is what carries a full size top on four slim flat legs and leaves the whole underside open. The result is a table with a strikingly light profile for its span, which is exactly the point.
This pre-owned 70/70 is the 67 inch size with a white top and a black base. The top is a hard laminate surface laid over a plywood core, and the edge is left exposed so a fine band of plywood layers runs around the whole perimeter. That edge detail is a signature of the design, and it gives a clean white surface a crisp line of definition. The legs are matte black powder coated aluminum, folded into a slim closed loop shape that meets the top at the outer corners and angles back in toward the floor.
Because there is nothing between the legs, the space under this table is completely open. Chairs pull straight in from any point along either side, and a person at the end of the table has the same legroom as a person in the middle. At 67 by 33.5 inches on a 29 inch standard desk height, it seats six comfortably and eight at a push, which makes it equally useful as a meeting table, a shared work table, a break room dining table or a long desk for two. The laminate surface wipes clean and holds up to daily commercial use.
