Sit-stand desks are usually sold on how high they go, but the number that matters more for a lot of people is how low they go. Standard fixed desks sit at 29 inches, which is too tall for anyone under roughly five foot six to type at without hiking their shoulders. This Steelcase L-shaped adjustable height desk drops to 22.5 inches, well below a conventional desk, which puts a genuinely correct seated typing height within reach for shorter users and for anyone who prefers a low keyboard position.
This pre-owned desk is the right return configuration, built on the Series 7 platform Steelcase engineered through its Details subsidiary. The main run measures 24 inches deep by 80 inches wide with a 24 inch deep by 60 inch wide return on the right, and the inside corner is cut into a concave computer corner so both wings sit within arm’s reach from one chair position. The top is off white high-pressure laminate with a fine speckled pattern and a soft rolled edge, carried on a black three-leg steel base with a crossbeam between the legs. A keypad under the front edge holds up and down arrows, three numbered presets, and a set button. The travel range on this unit is 22.5 inches to 48 inches.
Underneath, the desk uses three-stage synchronized lifting columns with integral shrouding, driven from a central control box so all three legs move as one and the corner never racks. The columns run at 1.7 inches per second and stop anywhere in the range rather than at fixed increments, and a soft-stop motor ramps the movement so nothing shifts on the surface. Steelcase rates the three-leg configuration at 540 pounds of distributed load including the worksurface. The base rides on 2.5 inch glides with 25 over 32 of an inch of leveling adjustment, and the worksurface is high-pressure laminate over a 45 pound particle board core.
