Steelcase Used 3 Drawer 42 In Lateral File w Off White Laminate Top, Silver
A laminate top changes what a filing cabinet is for. A bare steel top is a place to set a stapler. A finished laminate top is a work surface, and that is why Steelcase offers this configuration: the cabinet stops being back of house storage and becomes a credenza, a printer station or a return surface at the end of a desk run. Steelcase has built steel office furniture in Grand Rapids since 1912, and the combination of a steel file body with a laminate work top is one of the most useful things in its storage catalog.
This pre-owned unit measures 19 inches deep by 42 inches wide by 41 inches high. The case is silver metallic steel, a light gray that sits comfortably with white, glass and light finishes, and it is capped with an off white laminate top with a squared edge that overhangs the case slightly on all sides. All three drawers use long horizontal metal arc pulls that span most of the drawer width, so the front reads as furniture. A lock sits at the upper left of the case.
At 42 inches wide the drawers hold a serious amount of filing, and folders sit side to side across the width so an open drawer shows its whole run at once. The extra inch of depth over a standard cabinet comes from the top overhang, which is what gives the surface a proper edge. Drawers ride on ball bearing suspension with steel file rails and adjustable compressors inside, and the counterweighted base keeps the cabinet planted when a loaded lower drawer is fully extended.
