Description
Steelcase Used 2 Drawer 36 In Lateral File, White
Most filing cabinets lock as a unit: one key at the top, and either the whole cabinet is open or none of it is. This Steelcase lateral is built the other way. Each of the two drawers carries its own key lock, so one drawer can be left open for the files a team pulls all day while the other stays secured for personnel records, contracts or anything else that should not be casually accessible. In a shared department that difference matters more than any other feature on the cabinet.
This pre-owned unit measures 18 inches deep by 36 inches wide by 28 inches high, finished in white steel with a flush face. Full width recessed pulls run across each drawer front, so the face of the cabinet stays smooth and nothing projects into a walkway. The drawer faces carry small paper index labels, shown in the photos, from the filing system the cabinet came out of. At 36 inches wide the case matches the standard casegood and panel module and lines up cleanly in a run of workstations.
Both drawers file letter and legal folders side to side across the full width. That side to side arrangement is the reason laterals dominate corporate records areas: the drawer opens and the whole run is in front of you at once. Ball bearing suspension keeps the drawers rolling under a full load of paper, steel file rails hold the hanging folders upright as a drawer empties down, and at 28 inches the cabinet stands at desk height so the top serves as a landing surface beside a workstation.
