Steelcase Think Used Coconut Mesh Back Task Chair, Ocean Blue PU Leather Seat
Steelcase introduced the Think chair in 2004 with an ambitious goal: build a task chair that sets itself up for whoever sits down in it. Designed by Glen Oliver Low, Think uses a flexible back and a weight activated recline to read the sitter and respond on its own. That quality is why Think shows up so often in offices where one chair has to work for many different people, from corporate floors and law firms to universities, healthcare administration, call centers and home offices.
This pre-owned Think is the V1 generation, built with a Coconut mesh back in Steelcase color 5065 over a black frame and a black five star caster base. The seat has been newly reupholstered in ocean blue PU leather, giving the chair a clean, saturated blue seat surface against the pale neutral knit of the back. The arms are four dimensional, moving for height, width, depth and pivot, and an adjustable lumbar support slides along the back to meet the curve of the individual sitter.
The back is what people remember about Think. A slim polymer spine carries a row of flexors that bend independently, so the back conforms across four separate zones as the sitter shifts. Seat height, seat depth, recline tension and back stop are all controlled from the seat edge. Steelcase built Think to be taken apart with common hand tools in roughly five minutes, and the chair is Cradle to Cradle certified and approximately 98 percent recyclable by weight, which keeps it on specification lists driven by sustainability standards.
