Steelcase Cobi Used Mesh Back Conference Chair, Turquoise Blue
Steelcase built the Cobi for the rooms where people meet rather than the desks where they sit alone, and the name is short for collaborative. The brief was a chair that would suit a two hour project session as well as a ten minute stand up, which meant it had to be comfortable immediately and it had to look good from every angle, because in a meeting room a chair is seen from the back as often as the front. The result has been a fixture in conference rooms, project spaces, training rooms and open collaborative areas since it launched.
This pre-owned Cobi is finished in turquoise blue, with a knit mesh back panel and a matching upholstered seat set into a white shell with integrated white arms. The frame and the five star base are platinum, and the chair rolls on casters. The arms are formed as part of the shell rather than bolted on, which is what gives the Cobi its distinctive silhouette and keeps the profile clean when the chair is pushed back from a table. Turquoise is one of the brighter colors in the range and it carries well in a room of otherwise neutral furniture.
The back is the interesting part. It is a flexible panel, so it gives as you shift your weight and lean back into it, which is how a chair with this few controls supports you through a long session. Pneumatic seat height is the adjustment you actually use, and because there is nothing else to set, the chair works just as well for a visitor who has never seen one as for the person who sits in it every day.
