Joel is part of the Coalesse collection, the Steelcase brand built to bring residential design sensibility into commercial interiors. It is a compact barrel style lounge chair on a concealed disc swivel base, which makes it a natural choice for reception areas, executive waiting rooms, private office guest positions, lounge corners and the informal meeting spaces that now sit throughout an open floor plan.
This pre-owned Joel is upholstered in orange fabric across the wrap around back, the arms and the seat. The barrel back curves generously around the sitter and drops into low integrated arms, with an upholstered back rest set inside the curve. The seat is a single wide cushion on a solid upholstered plinth, and the whole chair turns on a low profile disc swivel base with automatic return, so it rotates freely and then settles back to facing forward on its own.
The self returning swivel is the detail worth calling out. In a reception or lounge setting, chairs that swivel freely end up pointing every direction by the end of the day, and the auto return mechanism means the room resets itself without anyone straightening the furniture.
