The company set out to make an ergonomic task chair that a facilities manager could specify by the hundred without apologizing for it, and Focus has been the result since the line launched: a genuinely adjustable work chair, manufactured to order in SitOnIt’s California and Illinois plants, and found today in corporate offices, call centers, universities, and government buildings across North America. The mesh back version is the one most people picture when they hear the name.
This pre-owned Focus has a navy mesh back carried on a black frame, and the seat has been completely reupholstered in new ocean blue PU leather. That is worth pausing on. The seat is the surface that takes the most wear in any task chair, and this one is brand new, wrapped in a wipe clean synthetic leather that handles a busy floor far better than woven fabric does. Ocean blue against navy mesh gives the chair a deliberate two tone look rather than the accidental mismatch you often get with a replacement seat. The arm supports are finished in silver and loop up from the seat frame, and the chair sits on a black five star base with casters.
The adjustment package is the reason Focus keeps getting specified. The arms move up and down and in and out, and the pads themselves pivot and slide, giving four directions of arm adjustment so the forearms land where the work is. Recline tension adjusts to body weight, a recline lock holds the back where the sitter wants it, and pneumatic seat height sets the chair to the desk. The mesh back is tensioned across a shaped frame that carries a lumbar curve, so support comes from the geometry of the panel rather than from foam that flattens over time.
