Martin Brattrud Shamrock Swivel Used PU Leather Lounge Chair, Orange and Gray
Shamrock is one of Martin Brattrud’s sculptural lounge pieces, and it is built the way the Gardena, California shop has made contract seating since 1946: to order, by hand, for corporate and hospitality interiors. The chair separates into two clear parts. The seat is a large rounded pebble form, fully upholstered and running all the way to the floor, and the back is a single curved panel that floats above it on two slim metal posts. That gap between the two is what gives Shamrock its lightness on the floor, and it is why the chair holds up visually from every side, including in the middle of a room.
This pre-owned Shamrock is the swivel version. The seat pod is upholstered in a warm orange PU leather with soft rolled edges on every side, and the floating back panel is covered in a gray PU leather with a curved metal grab bar set into its outer face. The chair turns on a low disc swivel base tucked underneath the seat, so it reads as a solid form resting on the floor while still rotating. Both upholstered surfaces are smooth PU leather that wipes down in seconds.
Sitting in a Shamrock is a low, relaxed proposition. The seat is broad and deep with a soft crowned top, the back panel meets the sitter across the shoulder blades at a reclined angle, and the swivel returns the chair toward center so a group of them stays squared up without anyone straightening them. The grab bar on the back is there for a practical reason: it gives staff a place to take hold when the chair gets moved.
