Martin Brattrud Shamrock Rocker Used PU Leather Lounge Chair, Orange and Gray
The Shamrock rocker is the moving version of Martin Brattrud’s sculptural lounge chair, made to order in Gardena, California by a shop that has been building upholstered contract seating since 1946. The form is a study in two pieces. A large rounded seat pod, fully upholstered and carried right down to the floor, holds a single curved back panel that floats above it on two slim metal posts. On this version the underside of the pod is shaped into a gentle curve, so the whole chair rocks on the shape of its own base.
This pre-owned Shamrock rocker has its seat pod upholstered in a warm orange PU leather with softly rolled edges, and the floating back panel covered in gray PU leather with a curved metal grab bar set into the outer face. The two tone treatment gives the chair a clear front and back read, and both surfaces are smooth PU leather that wipes clean. Small feet under the curved base keep the pod stable when the chair is at rest.
The rocking motion is subtle and continuous, driven by the shape of the base itself, which is why the chair holds its clean sculptural silhouette from every angle. The seat is broad and deep with a crowned top, the back panel catches the sitter across the shoulder blades at a relaxed angle, and the open armless form lets people get in and out from either side.
