Knoll Used MultiGeneration Work Stool, Red and Gray
MultiGeneration by Knoll came out of the Formway design studio in New Zealand, the same team behind the Generation chair, and it was built on a specific premise: that a light seat can still be a serious seat. Knoll wanted something that could move around a building all day, stack or nest when a room changed use, and still support a real working posture. The work stool version takes that thinking up to standing height for lab benches, counters, reception desks, drafting stations and standing height collaboration tables.
This pre-owned MultiGeneration is the work stool with a red polymer back, a gray upholstered seat pad, a black powder coated foot ring and a black five star base on casters. The back shell is perforated in Knoll’s signature graduated pattern, dense at the edges and open through the center, which is what gives the back its flex. The seat height adjusts pneumatically from 23 inches all the way to 33 inches, so a single stool covers everything from counter height work down to a tall task position, and the back travels with it from 38 inches to 48 inches overall.
The flex in that perforated back is the point of the design rather than a styling exercise. Knoll engineered the shell so the back yields and moves with the sitter instead of holding them rigid, which is what makes a backed stool tolerable for more than twenty minutes. The armless configuration pulls the stool straight up to a bench or counter with nothing in the way, and the foot ring gives the legs somewhere to rest at standing height, which is where most cheap stools fail. MultiGeneration is GREENGUARD certified and Knoll publishes the line’s high recycled content.
