Knoll has been making furniture since 1938, and its storage components were built to the same standard as the seating and office systems that carry the company’s reputation. A box box file pedestal is the workhorse configuration of personal office storage: two shallow drawers at the top for the things you reach for constantly, and one deep drawer at the bottom that does real filing. Put it on casters and it stops being fixed infrastructure and becomes something that follows a person around a floor, which is exactly what open plan and hoteling arrangements need.
This pre-owned Knoll pedestal is finished in white steel with a black wire pull handle mounted along the top edge and a keyed lock in the upper drawer face. The white powder coat keeps the piece visually light, which is the whole point of specifying white storage in a benching run: three of them under a shared worksurface read as part of the desk rather than as three filing cabinets. The drawer faces are flat and unadorned with integrated finger pulls, so nothing sticks out to catch a knee, and the black grab handle across the top gives you something solid to pull when you are moving the unit rather than opening it.
The proportions follow the standard Knoll pedestal footprint at roughly 22 and three quarter inches deep by 15 inches wide, and at about 26 and three quarter inches high this is the taller box box file case rather than the low box file. That extra height is what buys the second box drawer. The bottom drawer takes letter size hanging folders on steel rails and rides on full extension slides, so the back of the drawer comes all the way out and you can actually reach the last file instead of fishing for it. Because it is mobile, it also works as flexible storage during a reconfiguration, with the contents staying put while the pedestal moves.
