Knoll Moment Used Sled Base Guest Chair, Silver Seat
The Knoll Moment guest chair was designed for Knoll by Jeffrey Bernett and Nicholas Dodziuk, and the cantilevered version takes its cue from Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s tubular Brno chair, a piece Knoll has produced for decades. The idea behind Moment was to take that classic cantilever silhouette and make it work as everyday commercial seating: light enough to move, tough enough for a conference room that gets used every day, and clean enough to sit in a lobby without looking like office furniture. It ended up in boardrooms, training rooms, cafes, and reception areas across a lot of corporate floors.
This pre-owned Moment has a white molded back panel on a bright chrome cantilever frame, with a silver gray upholstered seat cushion. The detail worth pointing out is how the back is attached. The molded panel cleaves onto the tubular frame with no visible fasteners at all, so the sweep of the chrome runs unbroken from the floor, up through the arm, and around the back. It is a small thing that takes a lot of engineering, and it is the reason the chair looks resolved from every angle. The seat is a squared cushion with a finished underside, so it still looks right when the chairs are stacked.
The cantilever frame has real practical value beyond looks. There are no rear legs, so the chair has a light flex to it when you lean back, and it slides in and out from a table without catching. Moment stacks four high for storage, and Knoll certified it GREENGUARD and GREENGUARD Children and Schools for indoor air quality along with SMaRT Sustainable Gold. Because it does not roll, this is a guest chair, side chair, or reception chair rather than a conference task chair.
