The HON Company has been building steel office filing in Muscatine, Iowa since 1944, and lateral files are the product category that made its name. HON is now part of HNI Corporation and remains one of the highest volume metal filing manufacturers in North America, which is precisely why so many of these cabinets are still in service decades after installation. A lateral file earns its place by being boring in the right ways: the drawers open every time, the cabinet does not tip when a full drawer is extended, and the finish still looks acceptable after twenty years of hands on it. This 42 inch three drawer model is the size that fits most private offices and workroom walls without dominating them.

This pre-owned unit is finished in light putty, a warm off white neutral that HON has offered for decades and that coordinates with the beige and almond casegoods common across established office interiors. All three drawers are full width and accept hanging files either front to back or side to side, so the same cabinet handles letter and legal filing without additional hardware. Each drawer has a recessed chrome pull with an integrated label holder, and the cabinet locks from a single core removable cylinder at the top center, which secures all three drawers at once. Measurements are 18 inches deep by 42 inches wide by 39.25 inches high.

At 39.25 inches high, this cabinet sits just above standard desk height, which makes the top a genuinely usable surface for a printer, a plant, or a stack of active work rather than dead space. The drawers run on full extension ball bearing suspension, so the back of a loaded drawer comes all the way out and you are not reaching blindly into the cabinet for the last few folders. A counterweight in the base keeps the unit planted when a full drawer is pulled out, and leveling glides underneath let it sit flat on uneven flooring. This warranty is given to the initial purchaser and is valid for a period of (10) ten years to the original purchaser from the purchase date. The warranty, which runs from the date of purchase covers defects in materials and craftsmanship found during standard commercial use of the products during the warranty period. As used in this Warranty, “defect” means imperfections in components which substantially impair the utility of the product.

Standard commercial use is defined as the proper usage by individual(s) who work an (8) eight hour, single shift work day. If a product is defective and if written notice of the defect is given to NOL within the Applicable Warranty Period, NOL at its option will either repair or replace the defective product with comparable component or product. When repairing or replacing a defective product, NOL does not guarantee matching color, grain, texture or dye lots. This warranty does not cover the cost of freight, transportation, installation or labor. NOL makes no warranty that any its products are suitable for any particular purpose and makes no other warranties, expressed or implied, other than those set forth here. In no event shall NOL be liable in either tort or contract for any loss or direct, special, incidental, consequential or exemplary damages. This warranty does not cover damage caused by transportation, labor, field service or delivery charge.

NOL does not guarantee the matching of colors, grain or texture. A product will not be considered defective, and NOL will not be obligated to replace it, if it is not installed in a proper manner (i.e., product not leveled, not secured properly, etc…). Except as noted above, NOL makes no express or implied warranties as to any product, and in particular makes no warranty of fitness for any particular use. At NOL option, product repair and/or replacement are the customer’s exclusive remedy for any and all product defects. NOL shall not be liable for consequential, economic or incidental damages arising from any product defect.

NOL may request that you replace defective parts with refurbished user-installable parts that NOL provides in fulfillment of its warranty obligation. A replacement product or part, including a user-installable part that has been installed in accordance with instructions provided by NOL, assumes the remaining warranty of the original product or THIRTY (30) DAYS from the date of replacement or repair, whichever provides longer coverage for you. When a product or part is exchanged, any replacement item becomes your property and the replaced item becomes NOL’s property. Parts provided by NOL in fulfillment of its warranty obligation must be used in products for which warranty service is claimed. Any defective hardware piece must be received back into warehouse before ANY replacement or refund will be issued.

This Warranty is expressly limited to the repair or replacement of parts and/or components of the casegood and applies only under conditions of normal use. Accessories are not included such as but not limited to lights, tack boards, glass, fabric, grommets. Storage and desk furnishings are not to be used for standing upon, work surfaces should not be sat on, nor should they be used as standing support.

Except as provided herein, NOL makes no other express or implied warranties, including without limitation any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. NOL is limited in its duty and shall have no liability or responsibility to the purchaser or any other person or entity with respect to any liability, loss or damage caused directly or indirectly by use of the product, including, but not limited to, any incidental or consequential damages. The warranty service we provide will only extend to our continental U.S customers (Continental U.S. does not include Puerto Rico, Guam, Alaska, or Hawaii). If you have forwarded the merchandise outside the Continental U.S. the warranty will be void. NOL uses 7-10 business day shipping with FedEx, UPS Ground or semi-truck freight.
