Hon Used 2 Drawer Lateral Fire File, Black
Everything about a fire file is in the walls, and this two drawer Hon shows it the moment you look at it. The walls, the top and every drawer front are built as sealed insulated cavities, which is what gives the case its heavy, thick edged look and its considerable weight. That insulation is the whole product. In a building fire it holds the interior of the cabinet below the temperature at which paper chars, so the contracts, deeds, personnel files and tax records inside come out readable. Hon has been building steel office storage since 1944 and is a long standing name in North American office filing.
This pre-owned unit is finished in black with recessed metal pull handles set into each drawer front and a key lock at the top right of the case. The keys are included and shown in the photos. Both drawers ride on full extension slides, so the drawer comes all the way out of the case and the back of the file is as reachable as the front. Inside, the drawers are set up for hanging folders.
At two drawers, this cabinet lands at desk height, which makes it useful in a private office as a working file that doubles as a surface beside the desk, or under a counter run in a records area. That is a different job from a full height fire file in a vault room, and it is the reason two drawer fire files stay in demand: most offices have one drawer’s worth of documents that genuinely need protecting and nowhere sensible to put them.
