Verus is the chair Herman Miller built for the parts of a building that do not get the flagship budget. It carries the same ergonomic thinking and the same build standards as the company’s better known task chairs, in a package meant to go into a call center, a training room, a shared workstation, or a whole floor of open plan desks at once. That is why you find it in so many offices: it holds up, it adjusts properly, and it does not look out of place next to anything else in the room.
This pre-owned Verus is finished entirely in black, with a suspension mesh back, a black upholstered foam seat, a black frame, and a black five star base on casters. A sculpted lumbar pad rides on the back of the mesh and can be moved up and down the spine to sit where your lower back actually needs it. The arms are height adjustable with pads that move in four directions, and the tilt controls sit under the right side of the seat where they are easy to find without looking.
What makes this one worth having is how much of the chair actually moves. Seat height, seat depth, tilt tension, and the recline lock are all adjustable, the lumbar support slides to your height rather than the average person’s, and the arm pads pivot in and out and forward and back so your elbows stay under your shoulders while you type. The mesh back carries your weight across the whole surface instead of pressing on a few points, and it keeps air moving behind you, which matters most in the afternoon of a long day.
