Herman Miller Setu Used Mesh Stationary Stool, Alpine
The Setu family began with a simple premise from Studio 7.5: a chair should react to the person sitting in it rather than waiting to be adjusted. Herman Miller took that idea up to stool height for standing height benches, lab counters, reception desks, and the tall collaborative tables that anchor so many open offices. This is the stationary version, which sits on a base that stays put, so the stool holds its position at a counter.
This pre-owned Setu stool is finished in Alpine, a light warm gray, with Lyris suspension forming one unbroken surface from the front of the seat up over the top of the back. The frame, the loop arms, the five star base and the foot ring are all graphite black, which gives the stool a quieter, more uniform look than the aluminum version. The pneumatic cylinder covers a wide seat height range, so it works at a counter and at a taller standing bench.
The Kinematic Spine is what you feel first. Two spring steel ribbons run up the back and flex as your weight moves, so the stool leans with you and returns when you sit forward, with the tension already set for you. There is no tension knob and nothing to learn. The Lyris suspension distributes pressure across its whole surface rather than a few contact points, and the open weave lets air through. The foot ring matters more on a stool than almost any other feature, and this one is positioned to give your feet real support at the settings people actually use.
