Herman Miller’s Setu is a chair that works without instructions. Studio 7.5 designed the family around a spring steel spine that reacts the moment someone sits, which meant the team could strip out the tension knobs and levers that most task seating carries. The side chair takes that behavior and puts it on a base that stays put, so it suits conference rooms, training rooms, reception areas, guest seating in a private office, and any table where chairs need to hold their position.
This pre-owned unit is finished in Alpine, a light warm gray that sits easily against almost any wall color and any wood tone. The Lyris suspension forms one uninterrupted surface from the front of the seat up over the top of the back, framed by a white shell and mounted on a four star aluminum base. The armless build keeps the seat clear on both sides and lets the chair tuck all the way under a table, which is what makes it work in tight conference rooms and along bench runs.
Underneath the simplicity is real ergonomic work. Two spring steel ribbons run up the back and flex as your weight shifts, so the chair leans with you and returns as you come forward, all with the tension preset. The suspension seat carries your weight across its whole surface rather than pressing into a few points, and the open weave moves air instead of trapping heat.
