Studio 7.5 designed the Setu around a spring steel spine that responds to a person the moment they sit, which is why the chair carries almost no controls and still fits nearly everyone who uses it. This is the rolling version on a five star caster base with pneumatic height adjustment, so it works as a desk chair, a conference chair, or the shared seat at a touchdown station. Herman Miller has been building the family since 2009 and it has become a fixture in offices that want proper ergonomics without a training session.
This pre-owned unit is finished in a light gray upholstered suspension, which wraps the Lyris weave in a soft woven cover so the surface reads as fabric rather than open mesh. The result is a warmer, quieter looking chair than the mesh version while keeping the same flex underneath. The frame and the five star base are dark graphite, and the chair is armless, so the seat stays clear on both sides and slides fully under a desk or a conference table.
The Kinematic Spine does the work. Two spring steel ribbons run up the back and flex as your weight shifts, so the chair leans when you lean and returns as you sit forward, with the tension already balanced for you rather than left on a knob. The suspension underneath the upholstery spreads pressure across the whole seat instead of concentrating it behind the knees, and the seat back sweep is a single continuous curve with no upholstered edge to catch or wear. Pneumatic height adjustment is the only control, which makes this an easy chair to hand to a new hire or share across a team.
