Herman Miller Setu Used Armless Chair, Light Gray
Setu is the Herman Miller chair that gets its comfort from structure rather than from padding and levers. Studio 7.5 built the family around two spring steel ribbons that flex the instant weight lands on the seat, which let them strip out the tension controls that most task chairs carry. On a five star caster base with pneumatic height adjustment, it covers desk work, conference rooms, shared workstations and touchdown spaces equally well.
This pre-owned unit is finished in a light gray upholstered suspension, a woven cover laid over the Lyris weave so the surface feels like fabric while the suspension underneath keeps doing the supporting. The frame is graphite black and the five star base is polished aluminum, a combination that gives the chair a brighter footing than the all black version and looks better in rooms where the base is visible. It is armless, so it slides fully under a work surface and leaves the seat open on both sides.
Sitting in one explains the design quickly. The Kinematic Spine flexes as your posture changes, so the back gives when you lean into it and comes back when you sit forward, without you setting anything first. The suspension distributes weight across the whole seat rather than loading a few points, and the seat and back are a single continuous sweep, so there is no upholstered edge along the front to press into the back of your legs. The only control is pneumatic height, which makes the chair genuinely easy to share.
