Herman Miller Mirra 1 Used Mesh Back Task Chair, Cappuccino
The Herman Miller Mirra arrived in 2003 from the Berlin design office Studio 7.5, and it introduced an idea that shaped office seating for the next decade: a back molded as one polymer panel, cut so the material itself varies in stiffness across its span. Herman Miller cut the panel in a graduated pattern so it behaves like several different materials at once, stiff through the spine and progressively softer toward the edges. The Mirra 1 suits private offices, open plan workstations, agencies and university departments, and it holds up because the construction is simple and solid.
This pre-owned Mirra 1 is finished in Cappuccino, a warm mid brown, on a graphite frame and five star base. The back is the fabric covered suspension version, so the front face reads as a smooth Cappuccino panel and the graduated TriFlex structure shows through from behind. The seat is a Cappuccino AireWeave suspension surface that carries weight evenly across its whole span, and the black arm pads and graphite frame let the warm brown read as the accent.
This is the full function build. It has adjustable lumbar support, fully adjustable arms, forward tilt, seat edge adjustment, a recline lock and pneumatic seat height. The Harmonic tilt underneath uses a butterfly shaped steel spring that holds recline resistance steady from upright all the way back, so the chair never gets suddenly heavy at the end of its travel. The FlexFront seat edge slides to suit different leg lengths and keeps the front edge from pressing behind the knees. The Mirra was the first chair Herman Miller developed with its Design for Environment process, an early Cradle to Cradle product built to come apart with common tools, and it is GREENGUARD certified for low chemical emissions.
