The Zody has one of the strongest ergonomic pedigrees in commercial seating. Haworth developed it with ITO Design and with input from researchers at Western Michigan University, and when it launched it became the first office chair to earn a recommendation from the American Physical Therapy Association. That reputation is why it has stayed in offices, hospitals, universities and government buildings for two decades, and why it remains one of the chairs people specifically ask for by name when they are replacing seating.
This pre-owned Zody pairs a black suspension mesh back with a black upholstered seat, and it is built on the polished aluminum frame and five star base rather than the standard black plastic. The bright aluminum runs through the seat frame arms and down through the base, which makes this a noticeably more finished looking chair than the common configuration and a better fit for a private office or anywhere the chair is seen from all sides. The armrests are fully adjustable with black pads, and the controls sit under the seat within easy reach.
What sets the Zody apart is its PAL system, short for Pelvic and Lumbar. Rather than a single lumbar pad, the chair carries independently adjustable supports on the left and right sides of the lower back, so a person who sits asymmetrically, which is most people, can support each side to a different degree. Add pneumatic height, seat depth, tilt tension, a back tilt lock and a forward tilt setting for leaning into a desk, and the chair adjusts to a genuinely wide range of bodies and tasks. Zody is Cradle to Cradle certified and built to be highly recyclable at the end of its service life.
