Global, now trading as Global Furniture Group, has been building contract office furniture out of Toronto since 1966 and is one of the largest manufacturers in North America. Their laminate casegoods are the pieces you find in law firms, credit unions, and corporate suites where a desk has to look like an executive desk and still survive twenty years of daily use. This Global U-shaped laminate desk with a left return is the full private office setup: a main desk in front, a credenza run behind, and a bridge tying the two together so everything is within a chair swivel.
This pre owned station is finished in Asian Night throughout, a dark charcoal woodgrain laminate with a fine linear texture that runs across the tops and the case work alike. The main desk carries a frosted glass modesty panel set in a metal frame, a detail that lifts this above a standard closed panel desk, and it is fitted with a fixed box box file pedestal on metal bar pulls. The credenza behind holds a two drawer lateral file with 36 inch wide drawers plus an open knee space. The bridge is the standout: it is a height adjustable surface on two stage metal legs with a digital LCD controller mounted under the front edge, so the user can drive it from a seated 27 inches up to a standing 45 inches. On this configuration the return sits on the left.
That combination is what makes a U-shape worth the floor space. You get a formal front desk for meetings, a full length credenza behind for storage and layout, and a sit stand surface built into the same set rather than bolted on as an afterthought. Grommets are cut into both the main top and the bridge for power and data, the pedestal file drawer locks, and the whole set is built on thermofused laminate over an engineered wood core with 3mm edge banding, which is the construction that keeps commercial casegoods from swelling and chipping the way residential furniture does. The bridge and return are the same size and are interchangeable.
