Global, known today as Global Furniture Group, has been manufacturing contract office furniture from Toronto since 1966 and is one of the largest names in the North American market. Their laminate casegoods are specified for private offices and manager stations because they combine a finished, executive look with the kind of construction that survives a decade of moves and reconfigurations. This Global L-shaped laminate desk with a left return is the classic private office footprint, and it comes with a feature most L desks do not: the return is height adjustable.
This pre owned desk is finished in Asian Night throughout, a dark charcoal woodgrain laminate with a fine linear texture carried across the tops and the case work alike. The main desk runs a full modesty panel across the front for a clean, closed appearance and carries a fixed box box file pedestal on metal bar pulls. A second mobile file file pedestal rolls on casters, so it can tuck under the return, sit beside the chair, or move out of the way entirely. The return itself is mounted on two stage metal legs with a digital LCD controller under the front edge, driving from 27 inches seated to 45 inches standing. On this desk the return is on the left.
Putting the sit stand function on the return rather than the main desk is a smart bit of planning. The formal front surface stays at a fixed executive height for meetings and signing, while the return becomes the working surface that rises and falls with the user through the day. Grommets are cut into both tops for power and data, the pedestal file drawers lock, and the case work is thermofused laminate over an engineered wood core with 3mm edge banding, the commercial specification that keeps edges from chipping and surfaces from swelling.
