Davis Q5 Used Geometric Bench, Dark Blue
The Davis Q5 geometric bench belongs to Jonathan Prestwich’s modular seating system for Davis Furniture, and it is one of the more recognizable pieces of soft seating in contemporary commercial interiors. Q5 is built around a trapezoid profile, an angular low slung form that reads almost architectural next to conventional lounge furniture. Davis builds the whole collection from a small set of bench, ottoman and table shapes that lock together in an open ended number of arrangements, so the same pieces can form a single perch, a conversation cluster, a long serpentine run down a corridor, or a sprawling island in a lobby. These show up in tech campuses, university commons, museum lobbies, airport lounges, corporate reception areas and collaboration zones.
This pre-owned Q5 bench is upholstered in a dark blue woven fabric, a deep near navy tone with a subtle texture in the weave that keeps the large flat faces from looking flat. The bench is the chevron shape from the collection, roughly 65 inches across the widest point, with two seating faces meeting at an obtuse angle so one bench already gives you two directions to sit. The upholstery is pulled over the entire form with no exposed frame or legs, and the body tapers slightly toward the floor so the bench looks like it is floating rather than resting. The example photos show it both on its own and grouped with the orange and blue pieces from the same family.
What makes Q5 useful in a working building is that every edge is a mating edge. The angled faces mean two benches can meet at a corner, splay apart into a wide V, or nest tail to tail into a star, and the result still looks deliberate rather than improvised.
