Davis Fina Used Side Chair, Blue Leather
The Davis Fina is Wolfgang C. R. Mezger’s multipurpose chair for Davis Furniture, the High Point manufacturer that has built its catalog around European design partnerships. Davis describes Fina as a classic multipurpose chair, attractive enough for everyday use and delicately designed to be extremely robust, and the drawing bears that out. The lines are slender, the shell construction carries the load, and the whole chair takes up very little visual space. That combination makes Fina a regular in conference rooms, training rooms, cafes, dining areas, guest seating in front of a desk and multipurpose rooms that get reset several times a week.
This pre-owned Fina is the arm version. The seat and inner back are upholstered in a deep blue leather, smooth and lightly grained, wrapped cleanly over the shell with no visible seams across the sitting surface. The outer back is finished in oak plywood veneer, which is what gives Fina its signature two material look. The frame is a slim polished chrome tube in a four leg configuration with a cross stretcher, and the arms rise off the frame and finish in matching wood arm caps that pick up the oak on the back. The wood, the leather and the chrome are three separate materials handled with a very light touch.
Fina is a static four leg chair, which means it stays exactly where you put it. That is what you want in a room where the chairs should hold their arrangement, and it is why Fina works as a side and guest chair rather than a rolling conference chair. The shell is contoured through the seat and up the back so it supports properly through a meeting, the leather wipes clean, and the slim frame lets the chairs sit close together around a table without the arms fighting each other.
