Steelcase Answer is one of the most widely installed panel systems in the North American office market, and it earned that position by being straightforward to reconfigure and hard to wear out. The system is built around steel panel frames that accept interchangeable skins, so a floor plan can be adjusted, re-tiled or re-sized years after it was first installed rather than replaced. This 5′ x 5′ station comes out of a corporate office install and suits open plan team areas, accounting and operations groups, claims and call center floors, back office departments, and any employer that needs a consistent workstation footprint repeated across a large room.
This pre-owned station measures 60″ on the spine and 60″ on the wing, with 24″ end panels closing off the aisleways and a 48″ panel height throughout. The panels are light gray fabric set in silver painted frames and trim, and each station carries a white laminate corner worksurface with a radiused user edge that pulls the work area in close on the diagonal. Storage is a gray steel box/box/file pedestal, one per station, with a lock on the top drawer. The worksurfaces hang off the panels rather than sitting on legs, which leaves the knee space and the floor underneath completely open.
Power runs through the spine, and the receptacles sit at the base of the panels where they are easy to reach without pulling the station apart. The 48″ panel height is the practical middle ground in the Answer range: high enough to give a seated employee a defined work area and a tackable surface at eye level, low enough that the room keeps its sightlines and its daylight. Steelcase also applies reclaimed powder-coat paint to internal components on this line, diverting more than 97,000 pounds of waste each year.
